Front wheel weirdness

So there's a few weird things going on with my Gazelle front wheel. Weird things being that it uses parts that are either bespoke to Gazelle or really hard to find if they are even available as spares. First is that the brake shoes are completely different to Sturmey Archer ones. Not only are they made of pressed sheet steel, Sturmey ones are cast - you can see the ones I broke in an earlier post, but the pivot is a different size and the cam is a different width. Next the bearing race uses different size and therefore also different number of ball bearings. There's a picture below of a Sturmey Archer rear cone next to my Gazelle front cone showing the difference in size. When it all goes wrong at once - Day 5

So after the gearbox locked up (Day 3 of it all going wrong) I took the gearbox apart and found that I had broken teeth off the sun gear, the planets and the ring gear. I found a second hand gear box on eBay which I could take planets and a ring gear from. When it all goes wrong at once - Day 4

With the bike now out of action with a broken gearbox I thought I'd have a look at the front brake which has been getting stuck on more regularly. After applying the brake it doesn't release immediately. Opening up the front hub I found out why, The brake shoes have snapped so are free ish to do there own thing. Spot the cracks... There they are... I think this is because the pin that the shoes rotate around had come loose and was able to be twisted by the force of the brakes. In turn this twisted the arm on the shoe that goes around the pin, ultimately snapping it over time. Front hub needed now as well as a rear gearbox!
